La Luna del Cacciatore

Chapter 5

"Let me just stop at home to grab a few things." He smiled. "Make another left, up here."

We had left the lake front after a few more hours of sight seeing and talking, and then we made our way to Dmitri's old place. He lived right across the street from the house I grew up in, and where my dad still resided. "This is too exciting! I'm glad we decided on a sleep over." I laughed as I drove down the streets. "Just like when we were kids."

"Yes, we did have a lot of fun, didn't we? I can't believe it's been so long." Dmitri smiled as he glanced out of the window. "Alright, now turn here and it's the second house on the right."

"I remember." I grinned. We pulled up to a large brick house surrounded by a black iron fence, almost entirely covered my overgrown vines and leaves. The place seemed brand new, and yet it had been here for decades, also standing as Dmitri's childhood home. I got out of the car, and he guided me into the house.

Just wait here, I'll be back shortly." He smiled, and then he walked off to the upper floor.

I wandered around in the living area where all of the same pictures had been hung and placed on the mantle. One I recognized as his school photo of when we first met, and there I was, in the background. His family pictured had also been there as I remembered, and I smiled at the sight of his mom and sisters. I then wondered if they ever thought of me when they left.

Dmitri returned with a duffel bag slung over his shoulder, then he glided down the stairs and walked up behind me. His smile widened as he saw my curious eyes inspect each photo above the fireplace. His hand suddenly rested gently on my shoulder.

"They miss you, you know." He cooed.

"I've missed them too." I sighed. "I wished that you and your mom had come back seven years ago, I know you two would have helped me..."

Dmitri stayed silent as he stood behind me, then he leaned against me and pulled me against his chest. "I should have been there for you, I'm sorry. I cannot apologize enough." His grip tightened and my arms wrapped around his.

"Oh Mitka, I don't want to hear that."

He laughed suddenly, and his whole body shook as he did. "Ah, I haven't heard that name in so long either." He then released me from his embrace and turned me around to face him. He then pulled back slightly so he could see me better, but he didn't say a word. Staring into his eyes made me feel warm all over, like they were filled with flames. Slowly, carefully, those long fingers of his reached out and traced the edge of my cheekbone, moving up the side of my face. At the first touch of his skin on mine, I shivered.

Swallowing, I dragged my eyes up from his lips. All day, I had been contemplating what it would be like to kiss him. Even when we were younger, his lips against my cheek had always sent me into a butterfly-filled tizzy. The thought of his lips against mine was both exciting and scary, which had been silly, but I was always nervous around him. The thought of him closing the distance between us and bringing his face against mine had sent my world spinning out of control.

Suddenly his phone rang, and he swore out loud then whipped the phone from his pocket and mashed the ignore button, shoving it back into his pocket. His expression became flustered, so I grabbed his hand, which made him look at me calmly.

"Did you want to get going?" I asked him smoothly.

"Sure. I'd like that." He smiled.

He and I left his home and made our way to the car, driving off as the sun finally disappeared from the horizon. I pulled into the driveway and quickly reached for Dmitri's bag.

"here we are, my humble abode. Excuse the mess, I just moved in a few days ago." I laughed nervously. I held the front door open for him and he bowed his head in thanks.

"I don't mind at all. So do you have a spare room for my things?"

"Oh yeah, it's right over there around the corner."

He walked through the hallway and quickly found the door, so he placed his things down and made himself comfortable. I dropped my keys onto the kitchen counter and made my way into the kitchen to get to work. I decided to make my special guest a special dinner, hoping he would appreciate the cooking.

A few moments later, Dmitri came from his room and straight into the kitchen. He smiled and leaned against the counter top, watching me. "So is the room to your liking?" I asked him as I began to boil some water.

"Oh yes, perfect." he said. "It's very comfortable, even though there's no bed." He snickered.

"Ah well, I haven't gotten to buy all the essentials yet." I laughed nervously.

I couldn't help but stare at him since he had taken his button shirt off. He wore a black muscle shirt that hugged to his body, and his jeans remained on. My mind began to drift as I poured hot chocolate mix into two mugs.

"Well, here you go." I nudged his cup over to him after the water had been poured into it, and he sipped from it.

"Mm, perfect. You know what my secret for hot chocolate it? You remember?"

"Two packets of cocoa." I answered triumphantly. We smiled at each other and laughed, and it took us several minutes to compose ourselves, but I was happy to be in his company once again.

"Hey, did you want to watch a movie or something?" My face reddened and I turned away. "After dinner, of course."

"Is that what you're doing? You sneaky little woman." She laughed. "Who gave you permission to make food for me?"

"Isn't the way into a man's heart through his stomach?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Touche." He mused.

Dmitri went to pick out a movie as I cooked and readied the plate, so he set it up on the television and pulled out blankets from my room along with two pillows. He settled in and made himself comfortable on the sofa as I placed the dinner plate in front of him. He sniffed the air and sighed in happiness, complimenting the food before it even touched his tongue. I sat on the other side of the sofa and rested the plate on top of a pillow. I didn't want to sit too close to him since I had felt awkward around him, so I sat at the edge against the arm.

Toward the middle of the movie, I had grown uncomfortable in my position, so I tried to shift around to ease myself back in, but nothing really worked. I had wanted to lay across the couch as I watched the film, but my face blushed when I thought of laying in Mitka's lap. So I finally just gave up and rested my head on the arm of the couch.

"Terra, what on earth are you doing?" His stern voice made me jump slightly, and he was looking straight at me.

"Well, my back was getting a bit of an ache so I tried to get comfortable without interrupting the movie, so I'm sorry-"

"Hush," he gently interrupted, "come here." He gestured for me to sit closer, and I didn't dare disobey a man like Dmitri. I scooted next to him, and he ended up putting his hand on my shoulder and carefully pushed me down. M head ended up on his lap, as I suspected it would, and I was outstretched across the couch. 'My God, this is so embarrassing...' I thought.

As the movie progressed, I had become very comfortable and at ease as I cuddled against Dmitri's lap, and he didn't seem to mind at all. He began to play with locks of my hair, twirling strands around his fingers. My arms reached and wrapped around his waist, and then the realization of what I had boldly done sunk in... Yet Dmitri did not pull away nor even move, he rather enjoyed it, so I kept my composure and sighed in relief.

I began to drift off into a fitful sleep, and my arms had kept their place around Dmitri's slender body, not wanting to move a muscle. I began to have a dream, and there had been a familiar face; long black hair, glowing bright eyes, a dangerous smile. Why didn't I know who he was...?
As Terra's old flame visits the night, her mind wanders and she tries to regain her composure,
but what is in store for Terra in her dreams?

That was quite romantic! Even though I think Dmitri is hiding something, I really like how Terra feels helplessly attracted by him! And I wonder who this mysterious man in her dreams is...
